I am so excited the tomatoes are heating up and ripening. Salsa, sauce, and frittata is on.

Such an Amazing day to win seeds.

Minnesotans all over love to talk weather. Today I am not only sounding off about 70 degree weather in Minneapolis; I am also super stoked about winning seed from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. Overall I am not a "lucky" person when it comes to winning things. Sure I can hold my own during the tricked out squirt gun games at the state fair, but lotteries, raffles, and Lord know auctions are all stacked against me. All that being said I have finally won what I am calling an uber green thumb package of awesome seeds from Bakers Creek Heirloom Seeds. I have been dragging my feet on finalizing my seed order this year since having some health issues crop up. This and other home projects had me thinking about buying only seedlings for the first time ever. Now,all I know is there will be cauliflower this year for sure and I can't wait to taste a Stupice Tomato.

Mini Green House (1)

This is the BIG ~ Mini project we had been putting off due to weather and just pure plain busyness. In our exuberance and excitement over 70 degree weather we transplanted some seedlings too early and didn't heed the cool evening/morning temps nor our strict watering regimen. MY BAD!! **blush ~ blush** I thought it would work out better for me and my two cohorts (hubby and daughter) if we devised a system that could take full advantage of the not so unusual bipolar Minnesota warm then freezing weather without killing all our precious transplants in the process. So since we have ample garden and yard space we took on the task of a greenhouse. I always hear rave revues about this system and truthfully it has been working on a micro level wth the milk jugs so I figured why not? Got Beets?

Last fall I pickled beets and somehow lost track of the only 2 jars I made. Well as I went through the pantry to find new jars for the strawberry preserves I made last week low and behold I found them. Now that it's spring I had a dilemma because I couldn't think of the best way to approach them. I had only tried them in a corn salad or fresh.... What to do? *sigh* Well, if I may digress a little bit; I must attempt to make you fully understand the loathing I had for beets my whole life. [minus the last 3 years I've grown them fresh]
 My mother would open a can and heat the already cooked to death red icky root thingies. The smell alone had me praying there would be enough bread and water to be full for the rest of the night. There was no way they were goin down my throat let alone in my mouth period! Let me tell you, I became the master of the silent treatment and skipping meals.
